Azraq (meaning “blue” in Arabic) is a musical fusion and expression of my identity as a Palestinian-American. This piece is built around a mixture of influences including the blues tradition, modern jazz, and the singing style of Lebanese superstar Fairuz. This piece is about carving out a musical landscape where I can explore the fullness of what it means to be an English-speaking, Midwestern-Lutheran, white-identified, second-generation, Palestinian-American trumpeter and improviser.
